APSAD organized a concert - December 2009
In the framework of its musical walks, APSAD has organized its second concert on December 21 2009 inside the premises of the splendid Moawad Museum.
Around one hundred friends of APSAD enjoyed listening once again to Spinto Soprano Christina Fakhoury and Baritone Fernando Afara singing their beautiful Christmas arias and carols.
On this occasion Mrs. Raya Daouk delivered the following speech:
“Our real homeland is this state that is beyond time: our heritage.
It has no dimension in time or space.
Our soul’s hidden path happens to be in our history; and it is the meaning of our life.
Without our history, we forsake all our references, all the landmarks on which lean our senses and our reason.
The progress made by science and technology has never been able to find the chemical existence of the soul. It is just the history of humanity and its knowledge that makes it come alive again; that is why we should always ask and discover if we want to grow, and above all we must know how to preserve our history and our civilization to better prepare our future.
In spite of all the daily difficulties we face to preserve what history has bequeathed, in spite of the world struggles against the spoiling interests of a certain savage capitalism that falls on us, some people with much sacrifice have been able to preserve some haven of beauty and happiness in our country as certain places that we have the pleasure to discover with these musical walks organized by APSAD.
It is a sudden awareness of what has been done to try to stop the collective massacre of our memory on the sanctuary of the anarchistic construction.
We will need all our efforts; people like you and me who are doing some sacrifices to arouse in us the flame of our dissatisfaction in order to ask, to discover and to go further in the quest for the right to live of our heritage in its natural context; witness of a glorious past.
Galileo had said it so well: ask and they will give you, seek and you will find, knock and they will open the door for you.”

On the 20/5/2010: at Villa Dagher Gemmayzeh
A summer concert at the Moghrabi’s house in Chemlan.
We are organizing a big event to celebrate the 50th birthday of APSAD before the end of 2010. We will keep you posted. |

APSAD organized a concert - October 2009
In the framework of its musical walks, APSAD (Association for the Protection of Sites and Old Residences in Lebanon) organized a concert on the 12th of October 2009, at Sursock Palace, residence of Lady Yvonne Sursock Cochrane, with the participation of :
• Spinto soprano Maria Christina Fakhoury
• and Baritone Fernando Afara
This concert was organized for the benefit of the association.

بلدية بيروت: ماذا ستفعلين بالصنائع؟ - June 2009
تعود معضلة النقص في مواقف السيارات إلى أسباب شتى منها رغبة اللبنانيين، وأفراد عائلاتهم، باقتناء سيارة مهما توفرت وتعددت وسائط النقل العام والخاص ومهما تكبّدوا من نفقات بسبب ارتفاع أسعار الوقود والصيانة والتأمين. وتعود المشكلة أيضاً إلى سوء التخطيط المُدني في العاصمة بيروت، وإلى المخرج القانوني الملتبس الذي أوجدته بلدية بيروت لصالح منشئي الأبنية عبر إعفاء المباني الجديدة من تأمين مواقف للسيارات لقاء غرامة قدرها 25 مليون ليرة لبنانية للموقف الواحد (تم تخفيضها من 50 مليون ليرة)، في حين تباع مواقف السيارات حالياً بمبلغ قد يصل إلى 25 ألف دولاراً لموقف السيارة!
ولقد أعلنت بلدية بيروت بتاريخ 25 آذار الماضي في إطار ما أسمته "تطوير العاصمة"، عن نيتها إنشاء مواقف للسيارات تحت الأرض وفوقها في الحدائق والساحات العامة والأملاك البلدية. وهي بذلك ستصيب، كلياً أو جزئياً، حديقة الصنائع التاريخية، مما دفع سكان المنطقة إلى توقيع العرائض الإحتجاجية والتهديد بالتجمّع والإعتصام، لأن حديقة الصنائع بالنسبة للكثيرين تفوح بعبق بيروت، وتختزن ذاكرتها أفراح بيروت وأتراحها، وذكريات طفولتهم وشبابهم، فكيف يتم تحويلها إلى موقف سيارات، وهل استحالت الحلول البديلة كي تخرّب البلدية منطقة تضمّ العديد من المباني الأثرية!
تقول بعض مصادر البلدية في معرض ردها على السكان المعترضين أن أشجار الكينا المعمّرة سوف تنقل "بطريقة تقنية" إلى مكان آخر، فهل تعتقد البلدية أن السكان سيتخلون طوعاً عن أشجار الكينا الباسقة التي تتجاوز أعمارها المئة سنة وارتفاعها الخمسة وعشرين متراً، بفوائدها البيئية العديدة من تنقية الهواء وطرد الذباب، وجمالها وخضرتها الدائمة وتحملها العطش والتربة القاسية في ظلّ انعدام الرعاية! هل سيتخلون عنها بسهولة لصالح التلوث والكارثة البيئية والصحية التي سيسببها الإزدحام الخانق، وإيواء آلاف السيارات بضجيجها ليلاً ونهاراً، والسموم المنفوثة من عوادمها، ناهيك بمراوح التهوئة في الموقف!
وهل سيتحمل السكان مشروعاً يمتد على مدار ثلاث سنوات على الأقل؟ وما مدى التأثير السلبي لهذا التغيير المُدني على تصنيف المنطقة العقاري وعلى قيمة مئات الشقق الراقية المحيطة بالحديقة!
إن التكاليف التي ستتكبدها البلدية لنقل آثار حديقة الصنائع وأشجارها، "بطريقة تقنية علمية ومضمونة"، يضاف إليها تكاليف رعاية الأشجار حتى تخطيها مرحلة الخطر، وكذلك تكلفة بناء المواقف السفلية وتجهيزها، وتعبيد الطرقات المحيطة، ومن ثمّ إعادة تنفيذ حديقة علوية (لن ترتقي بمستوى أشجارها إلى الوضع الحالي)، تكاد تكون مساوية لمجمل تكاليف تنفيذ المشروع على عقار يُستملك لهذه الغاية (وقد يساهم فيه المواطنون)، فتزداد بذلك مساحة أملاك البلدية، ولا يُُحرم الشطر الغربي من بيروت من رئته الوحيدة لمدة سنوات. وهناك على أي حال أراض متوفرة في أنحاء المنطقة، منها على سبيل المثال لا الحصر مدخل شارع الحمراء حيث موقف سيارات مصرف لبنان، وكذلك عقار "سجن النساء" سابقاً وهو ملك للبلدية ويقع على أوتوستراد الراشدين (التلفزيون)، ويحيط به عدّة عقارات غير مستثمرة.
مرّة أخرى نسأل بحسرة: يا بلدية بيروت "الممتازة" .. ماذا تفعلين بالصنائع؟

During 2008 , APSAD gave series of conferences of awareness in different schools in Lebanon about the Peasant House - September 2008
Beit el Fallah Abu Nabeel: A story of architecture, environment and social traditions.
The awarness campaign is in two sections, a power point presentation given at the schools about the peasant house and
an educational program of suggested exercises and references
for teachers of the Arabic language to use to further educate their students on the subject.
A competition is also launched between the schools to pick the best entry to the questionnaire accompanying the power point
Schools visited until now:
• Collège Protestant: presentation given to 7/13 years old . Seen by 600 students
• Saint Cœur Sioufi: 450 students
• Paradis d’enfant School : 300 students
• Jamhour School : 300 students
Electronic Archiving :
In 2008 APSAD achieved the electronic archiving of all its images
Each picture refers to a city and has corresponding information (History, Heritage…) The system now hosts over 4,900 high-quality images.
As for the website, an image gallery with 531 of APSAD’s best photos was added. Users can browse through these pictures and order any high-quality image from APSAD via an order form. This program will be in use soon.
